The dogs that get to these organizations are cured, fed, trained and neutered or spayed.

Owners of purebred dogs should not breed them without thorough screening both parents for all disorders typical of the breed. When buying either a pet quality or a show quality dog, obtain it from a reliable breeder, because only experienced and responsible specialists do everything they can to improve the breed in general and get rid of hereditary disorders in every litter. Reputable breeders have several sires and dams, which prevents inbreeding at least three generations back in the puppy's pedigree.
