Training German Shepherd

It is not recommended to train a young dog too much, as a pup is not strong enough yet. When a puppy is 12-18 months old, heavy physical training should be started. Socialization of the dog should be started from the earliest age. By 10 weeks of age, your GSD puppy will weigh somewhere around 13-20 pounds (depending on sex and bloodlines.) A GSD will continue to fill out until 24-36 months old. The dog reaches a full adult height by 12 months of age.

According to the AKC breed standard, these dogs should be longer than tall. Actually, the body of a purebred dog is not long, but because of well developed withers and shoulders it seems to be very long. The head of a high quality dog should be noble, cleanly chiseled, but not too fine. The forehead is moderately arched; the muzzle is long, with the topline parallel to the topline of the skull. These dogs have almond shaped dark eyes. The jaws of these dogs are strongly developed. Sound teeth should meet in a scissors bite.
