Adult and senior dogs are a good choice for novice owners who find it difficult to train and socialize a puppy. In most volunteer organizations, abandoned dogs are kept in foster families before they find a permanent home. Foster owners evaluate their temperament and health, rehabilitate and train them if necessary. Foster owners can help with advice, because they already know much about this particular dog. It’s not always possible to know a previous owner of a homeless dog, because some of them are found in the streets. Future owners know nothing about the dog’s pedigree, health and temperament.
